OAMSC to Present Training for Film Production
3/2023 The Louisiana Department of Economic Development (LED) announced a $275,000 grant to develop and implement a training program for those 18-40 years-old living in the 70114 zip code that will lead to jobs behind the scenes on film productions, specifically grip/electric and costuming. This pilot program under the #EquityRising banner, is a first for OAMSC, so we are starting small with only two types of training. There are many jobs in film productions; however, we wanted to start with some that could lead to entry-level employment. Qualifying students will receive a stipend while training, which will be provided by the International Association of Theater and Stage Employees (IATSE)., the film workers' union. The paid training will make those who complete the program eligible to join IATSE for additional job and training opportunities. The training site will be at L.B. Landry High School in Algiers. The first classes will begin in late spring. Look for details in the coming weeks. Information will be added to the website at info@algiersmainstreet.org, and enrollment information will be announced in traditional and social media. Old Algiers Main Street Elects 2023 Board
